The 4th meeting of the Joint Commission between the governments of Azerbaijan and Iraq was held in Baku

On December 4, 2025, the 4th meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Iraq was held in Baku.

 

A delegation led by the Co-Chair of the Joint Commission from the Republic of Iraq, the Minister of Communications of this country, Huyam Al-Yasiri, visited our country to participate in the meeting.

 

Rashad Nabiyev, the Co-Chair of the Joint Commission from the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Minister of Digital Development and Transport, welcomed the Iraqi delegation and said that there is great potential for further expansion of cooperation in various fields between Azerbaijan and Iraq, two friendly countries with close historical, religious and cultural ties.

 

Rashad Nabiyev reported on the macroeconomic indicators of our country last year and the volume of trade turnover between the two countries, emphasizing that the Joint Commission is an effective platform for expanding cooperation between the parties.

 

At the same time, it was noted that the activation of the activities of the Azerbaijan-Iraq Business Council could contribute to the development of trade relations between the two countries.

 

The Iraqi minister, in turn, stressed the need to conclude a land transport agreement to increase the volume of trade exchange in various sectors, given Azerbaijan's location on the Silk Road and its role as a key participant in the North-South transport corridor, which strengthens common interests. She called on Azerbaijani companies to invest in Iraq and sign more memorandums of understanding to strengthen investments between the two countries. She also invited Azerbaijani officials to visit Iraq, which opens up broader horizons for bilateral cooperation and implements numerous projects for mutual benefit.

 

In addition, both sides agreed to strengthen business activities and forums for businessmen of both countries, to use the cultural heritage of Iraq, to ​​activate partnerships in the defense industry and energy sectors, and to study Azerbaijan's experience in the field of e-government for potential application. They also agreed to participate in commercial, security or cultural exhibitions to raise relations serving the interests of both friendly countries to advanced levels.

 

During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on cooperation opportunities in the fields of economy, industry, trade, mutual investments, oil and gas, digital development, science and education, culture, tourism, youth and sports.

 

At the end of the meeting, the Protocol of the 4th meeting of the Joint Commission on economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Iraq was signed.
