Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Iraq Eldar Salimov met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq Fuad Hussein
On January 13, 2026, the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Iraq Eldar Salimov met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq Fuad Hussein and presented copies of his credentials to the Minister.
The Minister greeted the Ambassador, congratulated him and wished him success in his future activities. Fuad Hussein also asked to convey his greetings and good wishes to his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov, emphasizing their interest in further strengthening the historically strong relations with Azerbaijan in various fields.
The Minister stated that he had visited friendly Azerbaijan 4 times within the framework of various international events so far and that 2025 was a significant year in the history of bilateral relations. The Iraqi Minister emphasized their interest in the development of economic and trade relations between the two countries, and in this regard, the importance of flights operated by AZAL and Iraqi airlines in the Baghdad-Baku direction starting in 2025.
Ambassador E. Salimov expressed his gratitude to the Minister and stressed the importance of further developing the historically established relations between the two countries in various fields. The Ambassador noted the importance of the official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov to the Republic of Iraq on May 7, 2025, the second meeting of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq held in Baghdad on April 20, 2025, and the 4th meeting of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission held in Baku on December 3-4, 2025, and stressed the importance of continuing the unique high-level relations and mutually beneficial dialogue between Baku and Baghdad.
During the meeting, bilateral and regional cooperation issues on the agenda between the two countries were discussed.
