Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Iraq Eldar Salimov presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Iraq Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid
On January 22, 2026, the President of the Republic of Iraq Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Iraq Eldar Salimov. The Ambassador presented his credentials and conveyed the greetings of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev to the President of Iraq.
Greeting the ambassador, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid congratulated him and wished him success in his future activities. The President asked that his own greetings and good wishes be conveyed to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev and the First Vice-President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva. He stressed their interest in further strengthening the historically strong relations with Azerbaijan in various fields.
Recalling his visits to Azerbaijan so far, the President expressed his interest in developing economic and trade relations between the two countries, and in this regard, emphasized the importance of flights operated by AZAL and Iraqi airlines in the Baghdad-Baku direction from 2025, and stated that it is important to establish direct air connections between other cities of our countries.
Ambassador E. Salimov expressed his gratitude to the President and stressed the importance of further developing the historically established relations between the two countries in various fields. The Ambassador noted that relations between our countries have been developing steadily in recent years, and that the official visit of the President of the Republic of Iraq Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid to our country on November 20-21, 2023, opened a new page in the history of bilateral relations, noting that high-level mutual visits have given a great impetus to the development of relations.
During the meeting, bilateral and regional cooperation issues on the agenda between the two countries were discussed.
