Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq Fuad Hussein
On May 7, 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq Fuad Hussein, within the framework of his official visit to the Republic of Iraq.
The one-on-one meeting between the ministers was later continued in an expanded format with the participation of delegations from both sides.
During the extensive meeting, bilateral and regional cooperation issues on the agenda between the two countries, especially the prospects for partnership in the economy, trade, energy, transport, communications, science, culture, education, tourism, as well as the regional and global situation were discussed.
The role of the existing historical friendly and fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Iraq, the cultural and traditional closeness between our peoples in the development of our relations was discussed. The importance of high-level contacts and visits, the mechanism of political consultations in further expanding cooperation was noted.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov drew attention to the importance of existing cooperation mechanisms between the two countries, in particular the Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation and the Azerbaijan-Iraq Business Council, and stressed the importance of using the prospects for the development of bilateral economic relations, especially cooperation in the fields of energy and mutual investment.
During the meeting, which discussed cooperation issues within the framework of regional and international organizations, including the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Non-Aligned Movement and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), the importance of continuing the support demonstrated within multilateral platforms was also noted.
The development of cooperation in the humanitarian and educational fields was discussed, and the usefulness of initiatives such as scholarship programs for students from the OIC and Non-Aligned Movement member states, as well as the Heydar Aliyev International Education Scholarship was emphasized.
During the visit, it was also noted that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between ADA University and the Diplomatic Service Institute of the Republic of Iraq was a significant event in expanding cooperation in the field of education.
During the meeting, regional and international security issues, the current situation in the Middle East, India-Pakistan tensions, as well as the realities of our region in the post-conflict period, our country's recovery and reconstruction, demining and peace efforts were discussed in detail.
The meeting also exchanged views on other topical issues on the agenda and topics of mutual interest.
Later, the ministers made statements on the results of the meeting at a press conference organized with the participation of media representatives.
